Late 19th Century Turkish Samovar, Brass

Beautiful Turkish
semaverler used for making traditional tea, based on the design of the
samovar used in the Russian Empire. The piece is believed to be from the late 19th century, and is stamped in Turkish "
garanti semaverleri". The inner tube is filled with hot charcoal, to heat the water more quickly and evenly. The top is designed to hold a teapot, and use hot air rising from the charcoal to heat a tea concentrate. This tea concentrate is then added to boiling water from the main tank and served.

The semavarler definitely shows its age, though the outside brass is in relatively good condition with some dents and tarnish. The inside shows a lot of use, and the brass is oxidized from holding hot coals and water. This piece is missing the lid and the handle for the spigot.
