This lot contains a
Young Card Players Print By French Artist Antoine Le Nain (1588-1648) Published By Shorewood Publishers, Inc. Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute Williamstown, Massachusetts. Antoine had two brothers, Laon and Louis. The Le Nain brothers were all painters famous for their paintings of rural peasant life. The three brothers all attended the French Academy and often collaborated on the same picture. Today, it is known as the “Le Nain problem, ” as it is usually challenging to identify which one of the brothers painted a specific piece as no signed work has a first initial. The Original work was acquired by Sterling and Francine Clark before 1955. It is currently on view at the The Clark Museum. The print is approx 14 1/4" x 18 1/4" and it weighs about 1.1oz. Overall the print is in good used condition with some minor wear from use over time. There are some light stains and signs of discoloration around the border from aging. There is one white mark on the print near teh dog as shown in the images. Please reference all of the photographs as they are a part of the description.
