Rare Walt’s Cargo Disney chess set produced by The Art of Disney in the 1990s. Designed by Disney artists Ralph Kent and Pete Emslie, featuring hand-painted cast resin figures of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and other characters in a Western/frontier theme. Includes original wooden hinged Disney Western theme gold-tone silhouette chessboard in box.
Set includes multiple character pieces housed in the original compartmentalized treasure chest-style storage box. Pieces are highly detailed and sculptural, each mounted on a circular base.
Originally intended as a limited edition run of 750 sets, production was largely abandoned due to the labor-intensive process, making surviving examples scarce. Sometimes referred to as prototype collectible pieces.
Pieces appear in good overall condition with light handling wear. The storage box shows expected wear from age, storage, and use.
