A 19th-century oil on canvas by Frans Keelhoff (Dutch, active mid-1800’s), dated on the back of the canvas 1857, depicting a tranquil rural scene rich in pastoral charm and natural detail. Framed in an original period giltwood frame, lavishly decorated with floral and foliate motifs and exhibiting classic 19th-century craftsmanship. The scene depicts figures near a cottage and a stream in a wooded landscape which showcase a Dutch and European landscape. Artist signature in the bottom right hand corner and on the back of the painting. The text written on the back of the painting is written in French, "Je deteste avoir peint le paysage et surtout le Mare d’eau pres des Saules, Bruxelles 18 Novembre 1857".
